Shop Talk by Dave Carollo  PGA Professional

Where in the world did the Summer go?  It seems like we were just getting ready for the Dropping Championship, and now it is the first of September and Boise Open time…  Hopefully you had a great summer, and HCC was a big part of it!

The Boise Open is September 13th through the 19th, and brings the Nationwide Tour to Hillcrest.  If you haven’t been here for a Boise Open, it is quite a production!  Jeff Sanders Promotions produces the event, the PGA Tour administers the golf, and Hillcrest Country Club plays host and provides the food and beverage concessions.  Please remember that the golf course and all golf facilities will be closed to the membership from Monday morning through Sunday evening of tournament week.  Also, please be aware that the infrastructure (ropes, signage, bleachers and the like) will be continuously installed for about two weeks prior to the tournament, so there is some disruption and additional noise during tournament prep.  All HCC members will be provided tournament passes and parking stickers, and I encourage you to come out and watch some outstanding golf.  There is also a Members Only hospitality tent adjacent to the Short Range, and it is a great place to quench your thirst and say hello to your fellow members.  If you have any questions about the Boise Open, please do not hesitate to ask

Thank you to everyone who has stopped by to check out the new Golf Shop, and especially to all of you that have made a purchase or two.  Now that the golf season is winding down, there is a lot of Member Credit on the books, as well as many Gift Cards that have been won.  Please keep in mind that all credit won prior to October 1st will need to be redeemed by the end of the year, so start thinking about what you might need for the 2011 golf season!  As always, we can special order most anything, but please don’t wait until the last moment to place an order.  We will be carrying a larger inventory through the Holidays this year as well, so there will be product for you to choose from as we near the New Year.

I would like to congratulate the following 2010 Hillcrest Club Champions!

Maddie Barnett - Girls Club Champion
Keawe Soares -  Boys Club Champion
Edwina McKay - Ladies Senior Club Champion
Ralph Hawkins - Men’s Senior Club Champion

The Men’s and Ladies’ Club champions will add their names to the list on Labor Day Weekend.

I’m happy to report that our events have been experiencing improved pace of play, and I thank everyone for being aware of your pace and doing your best to finish your rounds without delay.  That said, there is a policy being developed regarding pace of play, and it will be distributed upon completion.  One question that comes up in conversation has to do with what “in position” really means, and the best way to think about your position on the course is where you are in relation to the group ahead of you.  Your place on the course is one stroke behind the group that you are following, and if you maintain that position you will never have a problem!

September tournaments and events include the following:

·          Sept. 4 – 6      Men’s and Ladies’ Club Championships

·         Sept. 12           Hillcrest Challenge

·         Sept. 26           Cup Matches vs. Crane Creek

·         Sept. 27           Green Aeration
