Tee to
Green - Joe Aholt, Superintendent
It's hard to believe the end of summer is almost here. To me the Club Championships and the Boise Open have always marked the beginning of the fall season. Speaking of the Boise Open, the rough height of cut will be similar to last year. The rough mowers will be raised and the the turf maintained at 2.5 inches starting on August 23rd. Then raised again to 3.0 inches starting August 30th, and maintained until the beginning of the practice rounds. This mowing arrangement allows the course to be consistent while not letting the rough go out of control during the time the membership can still play. This also allow the "mow down" after the tournament to go much quicker with less mess. In previous years we simply stopped mowing the majority of the rough in late August or early September which gave inconsistent heights that varied from 3-12 inches. Often the grass would so long the grass blades would lay over allowing the payer an easier shot. I know the tall rough is tough for a majority of people, but it also gives you a perspective of what the Tour players face on a weekly basis. There are even a few members that enjoy the challenge and change from the same rough they played all year.
Anyhow, enjoy the fall weather and we promise to the rough cleaned up quickly after the Boise Open!
